► New Green Card Lottery Application Period Begins October 2, 2008 and ends December 1, 2008. The Department of State has announced the application period dates for the latest diversity visa (green card) lottery (DV-2010). Applications for this year’s lottery can only be filed electronically at www.dvlottery.state.gov. The procedures have been posted at http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_1318.html. Applications may be submitted until noon EST on December 1, 2008. Natives of the following countries are NOT eligible: Brazil, Canada, China (mainland-born), Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Pakistan, Philippines, Peru, Poland, South Korea, United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and Vietnam. Persons born in Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR and Taiwan are eligible. In some cases, the nationality of the applicant's spouse or parent(s) may be used. This year, Russia has returned to the list of eligible countries. All entries by an individual will be disqualified if more than one entry for that individual is received. A successfully registered entry will result in the display of a confirmation screen containing the applicant’s name and a unique confirmation number which can be printed and saved. Starting on July 1, 2009, applicants will be able to check the status of the entry by returning to the web site and entering the unique confirmation number and personal information. |
